The classic action-RPG Illusion of Gaia, also known in Europe as Illusion of Time, is an all-time favorite role-playing game on the SNES. It was created by Quintet in the mid-90s and published on the Super Nintendo by Enix in Japan and Nintendo in North America. Angkor Wat makes a cameo appearance in the opening scenes of Illusion of Gaia when some historic wonders of the world are shown in gorgeous pixel art. In the video game our character, represented by a young boy called Will, has to save the world from an impending disaster – which is surely not the first time a game tells us of this plot. He will go on to wander through many ancient ruins of past glory on his mission to save the world.
Angkor Wat could be found in many other games at the time, such as the arcade hit Pang on the Amiga 500 or SNK’s The King of Fighters XI.
